As the Principal of Catalyst Corps LLC, Jan Pomerantz advises nonprofits, foundations and government entities on enhancing their performance excellence, long-term impact and financial sustainability. She provides expert consulting assistance through strategic and operational planning (including restructuring, collaborating, fundraising and marketing counsel), retreat and meeting facilitation, board and staff development training and executive transition management.

An experienced lawyer and senior executive, Jan has led nonprofit and for-profit teams and organizations for more than thirty years. Her extensive nonprofit management experience includes developing and executing integrated marketing, communications, programming and fundraising plans through her leadership roles as:

  • Founding Executive Director of the American Marketing Association Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the largest worldwide association of marketing professionals), managing over twenty domestic and international grant, award and scholarship programs and leading the establishment and expansion of the preeminent annual national marketing conference for senior nonprofit marketing executives;
  • Director of Sponsorship Marketing for the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games;
    Founding Director of Planned Giving for the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta (the largest visual and performing arts center south of Washington, D.C.); and
  • A committed community volunteer with numerous organizations, such as serving as a member of the boards of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Alliance Theatre and the Board of Visitors of Emory University, as an officer and committee chair of the I'On Trust and as a member of the development committee of the Coastal Community Foundation.

Her corporate and legal experience includes:

  • Vice President and Legal Counsel for Federated Department Stores, managing various law departments for the Southeastern division as well as several major corporate community relations initiatives; and
  • Vice President of Ketchum Public Relations, directing the corporate social marketing, community relations and sponsorship corporate group practice.

Jan holds a J.D. degree from Emory University and a B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. A frequent speaker at nonprofit and association management conferences, she is a graduate of the Harvard Business School's Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management Program, BoardSource's Advanced Board Consulting and Vital Facilitation Techniques Programs and La Piana Consulting's Strategic Restructuring Training for Consultants. She has been a featured presenter for the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations and for the Lowcountry Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has served as a College of Charleston faculty member for the School of the Arts and for the Business School at the Medical University of South Carolina Leadership Workshops.
